Cold Weather Winter Safety Tips

Cold weather winter safety tips are an important consideration, especially if you live in an area that has below zero temperatures on a regular basis. This video highlights some basic winter safety tips. Listen to the weather forecast before you head out. Plan ahead. Develop a cold weather safety plan in advance to address safety concerns when it's very cold, or when there is a significant wind chill warning. Dress warm. Ideally, dress in layers, with a wind resistant outer layer. Wear a hat, mitts or insulated gloves, scarf, warm and waterproof footwear. Seek shelter. Get out of the wind and limit the time you spend outside. Stay dry. Remove outer layers of clothing or open your coat if you are sweating. Keep active by walking or running to help generate body heat. Be aware. Watch for signs of frostbite and hypothermia.
